Critical antibiotics

The National Plan against Antibiotic Resistance (PRAN) is a strategic action plan that aims to reduce the risk of resistance to antibiotics and, consequently, reduce the impact of this problem on human and animal health. The ultimate purpose of this plan is to preserve the effectiveness of existing antibiotics. Recommendations on the rational use of antibiotics and the constant updating of this classification is necessary to protect the curative value of antibiotics.

The new categorization of veterinary antibiotics proposed by the EMA (European Medicines Agency) classifies antibiotics into four categories and is currently under review.

On the PRAN website, you can get very useful information about antibiotics in each category, with a link to an Excel file with all authorized products in Spain that contain a certain antibiotic.
